Sylvia Abramowicz

Bass viol

Ensembles: Les Temps Présents

Sylvia Abramowicz was seduced early on by the world of early music; at the age of 7, she began to play the recorder and then discovered the viola da gamba at the Schola Cantorum in Paris a few years later.

She deepened her training at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands) and then studied the viola with Jordi Savall at the Schola Cantorum in Basel (Switzerland).
After a stay in the United States (Bloomington, Indiana University), she obtained in 1988 the State Diploma of Ancient Instruments and in 1998 the Certificate of Aptitude of Ancient Music.
Sylvia Abramowicz is invited to play with many early music ensembles (“Le Poème Harmonique”, “Akademia”, “Les Paladins”, “Les Meslanges”, “Le centre de musique Baroque de Versailles”,“Doulce Mémoire”), with a predilection for the consort of violas and for the unusual couplings of traditional early music blending with other forms of creation.
Sylvia Abramowicz is always eager to discover and play all types of music that have been unknown or neglected so far. In 1985 she founded with Jonathan Dunford the ensemble “A Deux Violes Esgales”, which has performed on many festivals in Europe, Asia and the United States of America.
Sylvia Abramowicz has participated in many recordings.
