For this recording of the Flanders Recorder Quartet, a long-held wish was fulfilled and the quartet expanded to a quintet with the well-known Dutch recorder player Saskia Coolen. A wide range of different works is to be heard with this seldom encountered formation. From old masters, such as Bach and Schein, over encore-suitable swing arrangements up to sensitive compositions by young colleagues: the musicians once again show the astonished listener what is tonally possible with their recorders – from the man-sized bass recorder up to the tiny sopranino.
The Flanders Recorder Quartet will end its unique career in 2018. In the summer of 2017 it started its farewell tour, which will take it throughout the world. The quartet has enjoyed a long-standing and productive collaboration with AEOLUS.
