2019 is Rembrandt year! The musical side of the great Dutch baroque painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is the source of inspiration for this CD: This is music Rembrandt could have heard in his environment, and in some cases most certainly did.

The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, where Rembrandt’s most important paintings are found, was the site of the recording on the unique Petrus Joannes Couchet harpsichord, which also belongs to the collection of the Rijksmuseum.

Bob van Asperen, a native of Amsterdam, is the ideal performer for this extraordinary project. In the booklet text, the renowned harpsichord player tells of the many hitherto almost unknown relations between Rembrandt and the music of his time.
