Hyelin Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea. The multi-award-winning organist is renowned for her keen sensitivity to the organ. Musical critics praise her playing for its elegance, expressive depth and naturalness. She is particularly fond of French symphonic organ music. Timbres, breath, space and line combine in her interpretation to create a very personal musical expression. Hyelin Lee performs regularly as a soloist and in chamber music projects in Germany and South Korea, as well as in France, Italy, Luxembourg, Czechia, the Netherlands and Slovakia.
Her first CD was released in 2023 by Hänssler Classic with works by the Swabian Romantic composer Christian Fink, recorded on the Weigle organ (1913) of the Stadtkirche Stuttgart-Gaisburg. This was followed in 2025 by another recording for SWR Kultur / Coviello Classics together with the chamber choir figure humaine under the direction of Denis Rouger, exclusively featuring works by the contemporary French composer Philippe Mazé. Following this project, Philippe Mazé dedicated a new organ work to her.
Hyelin Lee began her organ studies at Ewha Womans University in Seoul with Prof. Hee-Sung Kim and continued her training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Prof. Helmut Deutsch, where she completed her master’s degree and concert examination. After completing her organ studies, she deepened her training with additional studies in organ teaching methodology.
Hyelin Lee won first and second prizes in competitions in Korea, as well as second prize in the Hermann Schroeder Prize in Trier and third prize in the Daniel Herz Competition in Brixen. She was a scholarship holder of the DAAD and the Germany Scholarship and taught students in the elective subject of organ at the HMDK Stuttgart for several years.
Since 2020, she has been organist at the Protestant parish of Stuttgart-Untertürkheim and, since 2025, she has also been assistant organist at Ulm Minster.
