Burgos, Iglesia de la Merced

The organ of the church La Merced in Burgos was built in 1905 by Mutin-Cavaillé-Coll from Paris, France.

During a fire in the church on april 21, 2001 the organ was heavily dammaged. Especially the pipework of the great organ suffered considerably when the upper parts of the metal pipes melted from the enormous heat produced by an enormous jet of flame.

The organbuilding company of Gerhard Grenzing restaured the organ during the following years. Grenzing tried to reuse as many parts of the old pipework as possible. The destroyed parts were rebuilt in the original style. In this way the technical functions and the sound caracter of the instrument could be faithfully restored.
