Arianna Savall
Harpist and soprano Arianna Savall is one the most reknowned performers in the early music domain.

Born into a family of Catalonian musicians in Basel, Switzerland, in 1972, Arianna Savall began her musical training in at the age of seven. She studied harp with Magdalena Barrera and voice with Maria Dolores Aldea. She received diplomas for both from the conservatory in Terrassa. In 1992 she began studies in historical performance with Rolf Lislevand at the Toulouse conservatory and participated in many courses with Andrew Lawrence-King, Hopkinson Smith and her parents Montserrat Figueras and Jordi Savall. In 1996 she returned to Switzerland, where she studied voice with Kurt Widmer and harp with Heidrun Rosenzweig at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis, where she completed her studies in 2001.

Starting in 1997 she appeared in concerts and recordings (throughout Europe, the United States and Australia) by Hesperion XXI, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Malapunica, Ricercar Consort, Il Desiderio and other groups. She has participated in various recording projects for Alia Vox, Erato, Naïve, Mirare and Aeolus. In solo concerts she sings and accompanies herself on the harp, in a repertoire spanning from the middle ages to the baroque which her includes her own arrangements. A further facet of her work is her interpretation of the works, based on ancient Greek texts, of the contemporary Swiss composer Conrad Steinmann.

In February 2002 she celebrated her debut in the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona, where she sang the role of Eurydice in Monteverdi’s Orfeo. Other opera roles include: Florian Leopold Gassman’s Opera Seria (Theater Basel), Juan Hidalgo’s Celos aun del ayre matan (Wiener Konzerthaus), G.F. Handel’s Arianna (Basel) and Sueños & Folias (Teatro Liceo Salamanca).
