For our new SACD album (stereo and ultichannel surround sound!), organist Maria Vekilova-Desmet has juxtaposed key works of Baroque music with compositions of contemporary times: contrast is the central motif of her concept album entitled " Hell und Dunkel" ("Light and Dark")
Works by Dietrich Buxtehude are counterpointed by the Toccata (2001) by Bernard Foccroulle (*1953), who was inspired by Buxtehude's music to compose his piece. The young Belgian-Russian organist juxtaposes works by Johann Sebastian with the piece "Hell und Dunkel" (Light and Dark) by the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina (*1931), who lives in Hamburg. The huge 4-manual organ of the spacious Gothic Collégiale Sainte-Waudru in Mons (B) serves as a versatile instrument for the artist. The organ is a joint production of the companies Thomas (B) and Klais (D) from 2016, but also contains some ranks from earlier centuries. The 115 m long gothic church of Ste-Waudru, built between 1450 and 1691, offers generous acoustics!
