While Vol. 1 was recorded on the organ on which Jean Guillou played himself for decades, for Vol.2 Zuzana Ferjenčíková has chosen again instruments that have a special connection with the composer: the Kleuker organ at the Church of Notre-Dame des Grâces du Chant d'Oiseau (1981) in Woluwe Saint-Pierre (Brussels), which was designed by Jean Guillou according to his own sound ideal, and the Danion-Gonzalez organ (1966) at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de la Treille in Lille, northern France, which until 2007 had served as the radio organ in the famous Studio 104 (now “Salle Olivier Messiaen”) of the “Maison de la Radio” in Paris. Guillou often played concerts there. After the instrument was relocated to Lille by the Klais company from Bonn, Jean Guillou also played the inauguration concert at its new location in 2008.
Highlights of this album are several organ compositions by Jean Guillou presented here as world premiere recordings ("Jeux d'Orgues", "Chamades !", "Macbeth"), which were previously only known as manuscripts and are currently being prepared for publication.
In both churches, the recordings were produced in both stereo and 5.1 multichannel surround sound, both church buildings provide phenomenal acoustics!
