On his new double album, court organist Stéphane Mottoul juxtaposes Franz Liszt's most important organ works with transcriptions of famous works by Richard Wagner, thereby revealing exciting connections between the compositional work of both composers. The giant organ of the Hofkirche St. Leodegar, built by Friedrich Haas (1858-1862) at the same time that Aristide Cavaillé-Coll created his organ in St. Sulpice in Paris, then expanded by Goll and Kuhn, is one of the largest instruments in Switzerland with five manuals, Fernwerk and Echo sections, and 103 stops. The sound of the divisions distributed throughout the room is particularly impressive in the 5.1 surround version of this SACD!Available as from September 19.
